Unfortunately a few of the books I need are on loan, so have reserved them. But I also can't take any more out until I have returned the 9 I currently have on loan! This must be a record for me I think. But it's all very useful. I am disappointed it has taken so long to get in to the library to work, however, for an FMP I'm glad I did it now instead of never.</span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);">I have made a list of everything I need to include in my sketchbook so far as I am finding I am working faster than I can fill my sketchbook!</span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);">I am making sure I talk to lots of people and tutors about my work and listening and on the look out for any ideas. Unfortunately there were a few missing that I wanted to take out, however I will leave that for another day.</span></span></span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);">I now have a list piling up with references which will eventually form my bibliography at the end of the project. Currently I am looking at books such as Guerrilla Advertising, Small Graphics and Creative Advertising. For the more theory based side of things I am looking at Stress Management and 365 Steps to Self-Confidence.</span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);">I have spent the majority of the day scanning and selecting various images that is relevant to my work, and it looks like I am finally heading in some sort of direction!</span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);"><br /></span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);">After my tutorial with Mike yesterday, I felt I needed another input on my thoughts and ideas. I had a tutorial with Neil, which really helped and set me on a path in the right direction. I am going to scrap the idea of designing my own typeface for now as that is potentially a professional project in itself.</span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);">I need to define my idea to appear in a specific concept or situation in order for it to have the desired effect. As I want to encourage people to think more positively, I suppose you could say I am advertising positivity. I want the final outcome not only to be the chosen words and colour, but also how it is displayed and presented to the public. From here I can now look into advertising, and artists such as Catherine Griffiths and Sheila Levrant de Bretteville.</span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);">Now I have an idea of my final outcome, it will make things easier to research. I realise I am only scratching the surface at this point, so need to continue to define it further. An exercise I will be conducting will involve a group of people recording between 5-10 good things that happened during their day in order to bypass the bad. A simple quote or short phrase is something that can and will stick in someone’s head if it is effective enough. I aim to develop a small variety of these, which will be enhanced by the overall design and use of colour. I will produce a small collection of postcards, which can effectively be supported by other media to form my final piece. In order to put it into practice I will conduct one last survey from a separate group of people to gain some feedback on how effective my work has been and whether or not it has inspired positive thinking.</span></span></span><o:p></o:p></span></p> <!--EndFragment--> </div>Megan Corkhillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06995899296695778285noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5341125674640327804.post-87781108455078313872009-02-19T02:37:00.000-08:002009-02-19T03:06:25.755-08:00SCREEN PRINTING.<span class="Apple-style-span" style=""><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);">Today was a slow start what with everyone getting images together and what not, but the process was underway by about 12ish which was enough time to produce something at least.</span></span></span></span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=""><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);">I don't think I produced something with enough imagination, however I know I can scan the images in and work into them more to change/manipulate them. He planned the trains that we would be getting (as I have no idea where to start with London) and he agreed to be my tour guide.</span></span></span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">At first we thought that leaving at 7 in the evening would be too much time, but turned out to be not enough as it took so long to get around anywhere! With delays on the tube, this slowed our journey down more.</span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">However, we made it to every destination we wanted to target, but unfortunately we left London in great disappointment as the gallery's were either shut or taken down (despite saying the open dates on the websites) by the time we reached them. </span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">As I am really not familiar with London at all, it was an experience. A stressful one at that! I found people very rude and certainly made me never want to live there.</span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">The highlight of my day was Leake Street. James, Laura, Chris and myself walked through this tunnel which was completely covered top to bottom, in graffiti. It was incredible! :) We also visited the London Graphic Store, a very nice art shop which I could have spent all day in.</span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">I have agreed to go back there to try visit various exhibitions again. At least I know what I am expecting now! </span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">Unfortunately I have come back with nothing that will contribute greatly to my professional project, or my essay. This will contribute to the psychological aspects of my work. I feel my presentation went well, I produced a powerpoint presentation accompanied by an explanation of my ideas. This was another thing that made me nervous as every time up until that point I had tried to explain my ideas to people, and each time they came out different! Luckily I pulled myself together at the presentation and apparently what I wanted made sense, so that's a relief!</span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);">I finished my presentation with a short survey from my classmates to form the first part of my research. This was successful in some aspects however I feel a few people didn't take it seriously enough, and as this is for my professional project I was quite annoyed at this.</span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);">I chose a series of images and asked my peers to write one word on how the image makes them feel. This did include colours as well, however my presentation broke down a little here so will do a separate survey for colour using non-artistic people.
